Chris Rush American

Chris Rush is a visual artist and writer.

 

His art has largely focused on unconventional portraits. His paintings and drawings have been widely exhibited in galleries and museums across the U.S.  He is the recipient of fellowships from Art Matters, New York; The Arizona Commission on the Arts; The Ludwig Vogelstein Foundation, Maine; The Phoenix Art Museum; and The Puffin Foundation, New Jersey.  

 

The City of Tucson commissioned the artist to create twenty portraits of people living in the downtown area. This collection was presented to the city in 2009.

 

He has been an artist-in-residence at the Wurlitzer Foundation in Taos, NM, and Castello in Movimento, Fosdinovo, Italy.  In 2022, he was the Maurice Sendak Fellow at the Yaddo arts colony in Saratoga Springs, NY.

 

Chris’s critically-acclaimed memoir, The Light Years, was published by Farrar, Straus & Giroux in 2019.  He is currently working on a second book.
