Michael Mulno studied photography and its history at Arizona State University; he then completed his formal studies under the guidance of Nicholas Nixon at the Massachusetts College of Art, receiving a MFA in photography in 2001.
His photographs have been exhibited at the Albuquerque Museum of Art, Light Factory Contemporary Museum of Photography, Center for Photographic Art, Tucson Museum of Art, The University of Toledo Center for Visual Arts, Baltimore Museum of Contemporary Art, Museum of Photographic Arts, Hyde Gallery, Photographic Center Northwest, Arcadia University Art Gallery, and the San Diego Central Library.
Past honors include being the recipient of a photographer’s grant from the Virginia Piper Trust, a fellowship from the Albuquerque Museum of Art, being nominated for the John Gutmann fellowship, and a finalist for the Joy of Giving Something’s annual photographer’s prize. His photographs are included in several public and private collections including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Museum of Photographic Arts, Albuquerque Museum of Art, and the DLK Collection of Photography.
