After making a number of short films and publicity profiles for Paramount, Twentieth-Century Fox and Universal Pictures, Paul Joyce established an international reputation as a photographer in the1980s with exhibitions at The National Portrait Gallery, London, The Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris, The Witkin Gallery in New York, and numerous other shows in the US and Europe. He also wrote and directed in the theatre, returning to film and TV, writing and directing plays for the BBC including a classic four-part series of “Dr Who” with Tom Baker. His company name, Lucida Productions, has become synonymous with high-end arts documentaries and his films have been nominated both for INTERNATIONAL EMMY and CABLE ACE awards, being shown at over 20 Festivals worldwide.
He has written a number of books, including two about and with the British artist David Hockney including “Hockney on Photography” (Random House 1988) and shows widely as an artist, most recently in Los Angeles at Track 16 Gallery, a show which was curated by the late Dennis Hopper,
Currently his entire film collection is being digitized for permanent preservation jointly by the British Film Institute, and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Paul live in Kent, England, but travels widely and visits the Four Corners as often as he can!
